In this interactive and experiential class, we will read and discuss a wide variety of contemporary American poetries. We will talk about style, form, tools, construct, and context. We will deepen our understanding of poetry though multiple opportunities to play with language and create our own pieces. The class is designed to be welcoming for all, whatever your experience of poetry and writing.

About the Instructor:
Shana Ritter’s poetry and short stories have appeared in Lilith, Fifth Wednesday, Georgetown Review, and others. Her chapbook, Stairs of Separation, was published by Finishing Line Press. Her new novel, In the Time of Leaving, is available through Morgenstern Books and Amazon. Ritter has been awarded the Indiana Individual Artist Grant multiple times and she has taught poetry and writing workshops in a wide array of settings. Previously, she was at IU in education and cultural responsivity. |
