Last Sunday Poetry Reading and Open Mic

With guest readers: Mary Peckham and Tim Reed

Come early and sign up for Open Mic!

We will have a special Book Give Away at this event. Several members have donated literary books and journals which you can pick up for free!

Mary Peckham has spent most of her life studying, teaching, editing, and creating words. Her great love is poetry, and she’s delighted to be reading her own in Bloomington after years of inadvertent obscurity. An active member of the Women Writing for (a) Change community, where she serves on the Board, watches over the Poplar Grove Muse blog, holds space for a book group that actually discusses our chosen selections, and participates in the Saturday Jail Circles held in conjunction with New Leaf, New Life, Mary is an ardent believer in the power of words and finding one’s voice to transform lives.

Timothy Reed is a composer, pianist, singer, actor, writer, and piano and voice teacher. In 2010 he released “Euphoric Owls”, an album of original New Age/Classical compositions, featuring solo piano, and piano with epic, ethereal multi-layered vocals. He is currently in the studio recording “Love Makes the World Go Round”, an album of songs he has written or co-written. Imagine a combo of Ben Folds, Simon and Garfunkel, and Arlo Guthrie. He’s also recording an album called “Sit Bach and Relax”, featuring relaxing classical piano pieces. And he is co-writing a movie/musical called “Childrenopolis”. The Venue Art Gallery has invited him 3 times to their poetry readings, in which the poets have a week to write a poem inspired by a painting that they choose.
