The Maya did not disappear. They are alive, and thriving! Join ÓperaMaya and Indiana University in celebration of culture and identity through the debut of “Ja’ K’áak,” Cantata in Yucatec Maya, by Mexican composer Luis Ruelas, based on the poem by winner of the Mexican national prize in poetry Wildernain Villegas Carrillo. Both poet and composer to be in attendance.
The series of events sponsored by ÓperaMaya, Indiana University, The Institute of Culture and Arts of Quintana Roo, Mexico (ICA), The Grant Street Inn, White Rabbit, and the Arts Alliance of Greater Bloomington, starts Wednesday, February 21st with a dinner and opening ceremony at 7:30pm in the “La casa” Latino Cultural Center on the campus of Indiana University, and concludes with Mexican National Prize in Poetry winner Wildernain Villegas Carrillo reading from his work on Feb 23rd at 6pm in the Thomas Gallery, located on the square next to Darn Good Soup.
