RELEASE READING FOR WRITERS RESIST: HOOSIER WRITERS UNITE
“Writers Resist: Hoosier Writers Unite” features protest poetry, the work of immigrants, the experiences of women, and nuanced understandings of diversity. With work from the best writers in Indiana, including poets laureate, spoken word artists, and eleven professors, this volume collects acts of resistance to the retrograde political climate of our time. Critique is balanced with empathy in these works, quiet despair with revolution, and manifesto with imagination. Authors here either directly protest Donald Trump and the policies he promotes or they focus on the environment, the horrors of warfare, philosophical responses to survival and trauma, or literary ways of knowing queerness. They worry about leadership grounded in bellicose ignorance. They can envision the end of time or the Underground Railroad, drones or Chinese restaurants. These works contemplate, contest, rue, and wobble.
