Sharon Pugh is a long-time resident of Bloomington and emerita faculty member of the IU School of Education. Her fiction has appeared in a previous edition of the Ryder as well as in several literary journals. Her short story collection, Old Technologies, is available on Amazon.

Richard Durisen is a Professor Emeritus of Astronomy at Indiana University Bloomington. He retired in 2010 so he could devote time to creative writing, including poetry, short stories, and now a nearly finished novel. Most of this work is in speculative genres. The website durisen.com offers a sampler of his publications in various print and online venues. For the story he is reading, as for many others over the past decade or so, I want to acknowledge thoughtful critiques and encouragement from the members of Our Writing League, a Bloomington writers group.
