The Writers Guild at Bloomington presents Last Sunday Poetry & Open Mic

featuring JL Kato and John K. Kruschke

JL Kato’s poetry collection, Shadows Set in Concrete (Restoration Press, 2010), was selected as a Best Book of Indiana in 2011. A longtime ambassador of the literary arts, he was chosen as 2022 Literary Champion by the Indiana Authors Awards.

JL was born in Japan, and moved to Indiana at age two. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in journalism, and worked as a newspaper copy editor for 31 years.

Former president of Etheridge Knight Inc. and Brick Street Poetry (organizations that sponsor literary events, readings, contests, and publications), JL was also a co-founder and curator of Poetry in Free Motion, a collaborative project between poets and quilters.
JL moderated the Poetry Salon for the Indiana Writers Center, encouraging poets to develop their writing and critiquing skills. He also served for six years as poetry editor of Flying Island Journal, and now volunteers as a judge for the annual writing contest for incarcerated persons, sponsored by the Woman’s Press Club of Indiana.

JOHN K. KRUSCHKE’s poems have been published in a variety of journals including Blue Unicorn, Stickman Review, The Tipton Poetry Journal, Sage Magazine, The Lake, and Flying Island Literary Journal. He has also published numerous articles in scientific journals on topics ranging across moral psychology, learning theory, and Bayesian statistics. He is Provost Professor Emeritus of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University, Bloomington.

Emerging poets who need a supportive audience, and established poets who want to promote published works: Come 20-50 min. before the 7pm program start time so you can sign up for open mic! Your words are precious. (2-3 min. per open mic participant)
